Our
Process

Breeding horses at Flower Hill Ranch is a meticulous process, starting with the careful selection of breeding pairs. Each pairing is unique, as no single stallion fits all mares. Instead, we choose pairs that complement each other’s strengths, aiming for balanced offspring.Once the breeding process is complete, our mares are allowed to roam freely on our ranch, grazing in natural, spacious surroundings. Throughout their pregnancy, they receive routine vaccinations and worming to ensure optimal health.

Horses in Our Program

Our breeding horses are more than just showpieces — they are hardworking, sound-minded horses that have proven themselves in the field. Each horse in our program has a history of working on a ranch, either tending cattle or traversing trails, proving their value beyond the breeding barn.

Health Management

At Flower Hill Ranch, we believe in providing our mares with the care nature intended. They graze freely on the lush pastures of our ranch, maintaining a natural diet. In addition to this, we strictly follow vaccination protocols and regular worming schedules to keep our mares healthy during gestation and after foaling.

What to
Expect

Whether you’re looking to purchase a foal from our program or partner with us for breeding, we offer transparency and exceptional support throughout the process. Each horse comes with detailed lineage information, ensuring that you know exactly what you are getting.

  • Typically, breeding is advised to stop around 15 to 16 years old for mares, though health and fertility can vary by individual.

  • Yes, artificial insemination is a common method used in horse breeding. However, it is banned in Thoroughbreds, which are only bred through live cover.

  • Artificial Insemination (AI) with fresh or frozen semen is often considered the most effective method, as it allows for more controlled breeding and increased chances of success.

  • It is recommended to inseminate at least once every 48 hours while the mare is in heat, with at least one insemination happening within 48 hours before ovulation.

  • This could detail your program’s veterinary support, nutrition management, and monitoring practices to ensure the best outcomes for both mare and foal.
